Mrs. Sarah Ann Empey, resident of Ammon (Idaho) since 1888, died at an Idaho Falls hospital Thursday (3 Feb 1944) following a short illness caused by pneumonia.
Mrs. Empey came to Ammon with her husband, Ephriam S. Empey in 1888 and homesteaded a ranch. They were among the first pioneers at Ammon and were active in ranching ... Mr. Empey died 16 years ago.
She was born at Lehi, Utah, March 4, 1857, and was married April 1876 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City (Utah). They lived in Lehi until 1888. Mrs. Empey was active in L.D.S. Relief Society and primary.
Survivors include the following sons and daughters, Ernest Empey, Ammon; Mrs. Elsie Tracy, Idaho Falls; Bert E. Empey, Pocatello (Idaho); Martin Empey, Gardena, Calif.; Alva M. Empey, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Pearl Brent, El Cajon, Calif.: and Mrs. Edna Woolf, Ammon.
Forty six grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive. Brothers and sisters surviving are Frank Rhodes and Mrs. Elsie Briggs, Rigby (Idaho), Mrs Lois Anumbson, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Neibaur, Newdale (Idaho), and Mrs. John Smith, American Fork, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Sunday (6 Feb 1944) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Ammon L.D.S. church with First Counselor A.L. Brown of the Ammon church officiating. The body will remain at the Wood funeral home in Idaho Falls until Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at which time it will be taken to the home of Mrs. Woolf at Ammon. The body will remain there until time of services.
Burial will be in the Ammon cemetery under the direction of the Wood funeral home.

FUNERAL: Funeral services for Mrs. Sara(h) Ann Empey were held Sunday (6 Feb 1944) afternoon in the Ammon L.D.S. chapel with A.L. Brown officiating.
The Ammon choir under the direction of B.H. Barrus sang "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth," "Sister Thou Were Mild and Lovely" and "My Father Knows," with Millicent Lee at the organ. Bessie Judy was the soloist. Vera Barker, accompanied by Sara Woolf sang "That Wonderful Mother of Mine" and Urada Whiting and Jessie Barrus sang "Whispering Hope."
Roy Southwick gave the invocation and Leonard G. Ball the benediction. Speakers were O.L. Anderson, Lyman J. Whiting, Lyle Anderson and Mr. Brown. Poetry by request was read by La Dean Marshall. Burial was in the Ammon cemetery with Stanley Crowley dedicating the grave. The Wood funeral home was in charge.
Pallbearers were Worth Empey, Francis Molen, Martin Faust, Artell Suitter, La Vearl and Elwood Tracy.
Flowers under the direction of Mrs. Reed Blatter, Mrs. Lottie Garner and Mrs. Dolph Holm of the Ammon relief society were carried by the following grandchildren: Mrs. Elwood Tracy, Carol Tracy, Mrs. Dermont Trancy, Shirley Tracy, Leah and Learae Molen, Claire Empey, Twila Suitter, Mrs. La Vearl Tracy, Mardean Tracy, Bernice Hogan, Dorothy Tracy, Lila Jean and Doris Faust, Leah Woolf, Joyce and Lois Empey, Marjory Suitter, Margaret Empey, Norma Faust, Elaine Woolf and Mrs. F.P.
