Major General, CSA. Gen. Grimes led a distinguished career in the Army of Northern Virginia. He was the last Major General. appointed in the Confederate Army, and he led the last Confederate attack at Appomattox on the morning of April 9, 1865, before the surrender. The Grimes family cemetery is back in the woods behind the plantation house, and all of this land is private property. Both the Trinity Cemetery and "Grimesland" are located on North Carolina.
