Funeral services for Elmer L. Truax, 93, of Neligh, were held Sunday, May 29, at the United Methodist Church in Neligh. The Rev. Carol James officated.
Burial was in the Laurel Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Beyer Funeral Home of Neligh. Pallbearers were Doug Johnson, Steve Johnson, Randy Rice, Richard Rice, James Davis and Jim Asmussen.
Elmer Lee Truax, son of Oscar and Emma (Backhaus) Truax was born September 11, 1905, in Neligh. He attended school in Neligh until he was old enough to go to work. He married Florence Honeywell on May 31, 1931, at Marysville, Kans., and the couple made their home in Neligh ever since.
Mr. Truax was Neligh's oldest businessman, having started his first business in 1935 when he opened Plymouth and Desoto dealership in town. He sold cars until 1946 and then went into the appliance and Skelgas business. He also sold and repaired sewing machinces. At the time of his death was still operating his appliance and sewing machine business in downtown Neligh.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Weekend Wanderers camping club.
Mr. Truax died Tuesday, May 25, at Bergen Mercy Hospital in Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Deloris Settle and Joyce Rice both of Tucson, Ariz., a brother John of Crawford, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family asks that memorials be directed to the Neligh Senior Citizen Center.
