John served as a Private, 1302nd Service Unit, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Garrett County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 15, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed in the production of paint and varnish and also as Single, without dependents.

John died in the "Line Of Duty" while on leave and canoeing with a girlfriend at Lake Whalom, Massachusetts during the war. The canoe capsized and the cause of death was accidental drowning.
