Lewis W. "Babe" Brooks Sr 90 of Mexico, passed away at 1a.m. Thursday May 3, 2012 at Golden Living Center pin oaks.

Memorial services will be held at 2p.m. Saturday at Kentucky Road Christian Church with Todd Luce officiating. Visitation is Saturday from 1p.m until service time at the church. Burial with full military honors will be in Elmwood Cemetery

Babe was born July 13, 1921 in Auxvasse, the son of Percy Thomas and Elizabeth (Kesler) Brooks. He first married Ruby Dean Cartlidge and they had one son together, Lewis Jr. He later married Norma Gay Bradley and they had one daughter Carol Ann.

Mr Brooks was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the 42nc infantry from 1944-1946. He served 15 months overseas in France, Germany and Austria, earning the Victory Ribbon, European =Africa-Middle-Eastern Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Service Bars and a Purple Heart.

Babe retired from Smith Motor and implement and then worked part time at Darby's IGA. He was a member of Kentucky Road Christian Church and loved woodworking, gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son, Lewis W. Brooks Jr. and wife Kathy of Mexico, one daughter, Carol Ann Vestal and husband Jim of Mexico. four grandchildren, Sean Brooks and wife Jena of Linn, Eric Brooks and wife Heidi of Webb City, Jeff Vestal and wife Denise of Futon, and Michelle Burts and husband Charles of Wellsville. seven great grandchildren, Koen Christopher Brooks, Kyler Brooks, Katelynn Nicole Burts, Madison Lea Burts, Jaidyn Charles Burts, Devin Wayne Vestal, and Justin Brian Vestal.

Mr Brooks was preceded in death by his wife Norma, one grandson, John Vestal, one brother, John W. Brooks and one sister, Frankie Rosalee Brooks.
