Blanche D. Thurston, 90, a resident of East 8th Street in Oswego, passed away Tuesday, at the Oswego Hospital. Mrs. Thurston was born in Piedmont, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Nettie (Nabors) Dempsey. She married her husband, Frederick Thurston, on October 28, 1941 Prior to her retirement, she was self-employed as a seamstress. She served many local clients, and had formerly worked for Lambrino's Dry Cleaners. Mrs. Thurston was a communicant of St. Paul's Church. She enjoyed cooking, and making quilts. She especially loved spending time with all of her family. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Frederick; three daughters, Dian Chellis of Warners, Susan (Harold "Pudge") Batchelor of Oswego, and Alesia (Dennis "Oly") Johnson of Oswego; a sister, Helen Ledbetter of Piedmont, Alabama; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 9:30am Friday, in St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego. Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
