First Class Musician, Regimental Band, 18th Massachusetts Infantry

Moses was a 19-year-old Farmer from Andover, when he enlisted on Aug. 1, 1861 and was mustered as a First Class Musician in the 18th Mass. Infantry Band on Aug. 24, 1861. Following a directive from the War Department, which eliminated Regimental Bands, he was mustered out of military service on August 11, 1862 at Harrison's Landing, VA.

He returned to Andover following his military service, where he farmed. On Nov. 26, 1867 he married Susan E. Dowding, age 20, at West Andover. She was born July 31, 1847 at Metheun, MA the daughter of Nathaniel and Ann Dowding, both of whom were born in England. Moses and Susan were the parents of two children, Eva Eliza, born 1869, and Lilla A., born 1871.

Moses was a member of the Gen. W.F. Bartlett G.A.R. Post No. 99, Andover, MA and 50 years of age when he died of Pleura Pneumonia.

His wife Susan was receiving a Widow's pension of $30 per month, and residing with her daughter Eva E. Abbott, a 51 year-old dressmaker, when she died at age 72 at 7 Quincy St., Metheun, MA in 1921.
