Miss Barklow was born in Portsmouth, and was the daughter of Stout and Sarah Jane Jeffords Barklow, being their oldest child. Her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her to their last home. One sister, Mrs. Agnes Roe, is left to mourn her loss. Also an aunt, Mrs. Ross Brennan of Cincinnati, who was with her till the end. Miss Barklow was a member of the Christian church which she had joined in early womanhood and attended faithfully until ill health prevented her going. She loved her home and was devoted to her family.
