Rebekah Poindexter Jones was the daughter of Rev. Richard Jones and Dorothy Amos Poindexter. There are numerous ways to spell Rebekah - I have spelled it here as she did. Rebekah was born in Morgan County, Illinois. The family moved to St Francois, Missouri by 1833. Murphy & Rebekah moved to Searcy Co, Arkansas for a few years, then to Newton and McDonald Counties in southwest Missouri.

Rebekah married Murphy Brown June 29, 1836 in St. Francois Co., MO. She was the mother of 15 children - the youngest child was just over a year old when Murphy Brown was killed and their home burned. Rebekah took her family to Grayson County, Texas for the remainder of the War but returned, rebuilt her home, and raised her children. She never remarried and she outlived all but three of her children, dying at age 89.

Children were:
...Richard Jones Brown, born 12 May 1837, died Oct 1839
...Elizabeth Bridget Brown, born 3 Jan 1839, died 15 Feb 1839
