U.S. Congressman. He attended La Salle Academy, Providence College and apprenticed as a bricklayer in 1930. He became active in Rhode Island's Bricklayers Union Number 1 and was elected President of the Union. In 1941, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh and Seventy-eighth Congresses, serving until his resignation in 1944. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Seabees Battalion in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II. After the war, he was reelected to the Seventy-ninth Congress in 1945 and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until his death from a heart attack at age 53.
