Funeral services for Angie Rice Matthews, 81, will be at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 19, 2004, in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Renshaw, Rev. Thomas Robinson, and Rev. Cynthia Friddle officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mrs. Matthews died Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was born October 2, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of the late Dan H. and Ida Ewell Rice. She was a 1944 graduate of Malesus High School and was married to the late Clarence Franklin Matthews for 53 years prior to his death in 1999. She was an active member of the Madison Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Survivors are her son, David Matthews and wife Vicky; her daughter, Mary Ann Cooper and husband Monte all of Jackson; grandchildren, Cynthia Matthews Friddle and husband Don, Monte Cooper Jr. and wife Shea all of Jackson and Wendi Matthews Maxey and husband Todd of Dresden; eight great-grandchildren, Courtney, Emily, Olivia, and Leah Claire Friddle, Austin and Parker Maxey, and Cassidy and Trey Cooper. She also leaves a sister, Frances Rice England, of Pinson; many beloved nieces and nephews along with close friends Nancy Edwards and Doris Cook. Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by brothers, Rufus Rice, Sam Rice, Hugh Rice, and Dan R. Rice; and sisters, Ida Mae Hays, and Pattie Cooley. Pallbearers will be Monte Cooper Jr., Don Friddle, Todd Maxey, Bruce Heidelberg, Bill DeLoach, and Bob DeLoach. The family requests that memorials be made to Youth Town of Tennessee. The family will receive friends today from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
