DR. J.J. GRASS PASSES AWAY ON WEDNESDAY - Death Occurs After An Illness Of Two Weeks - Dr. Grass Has Been Resident Of City 33 Years
Dr. James J. Grass, veterinary surgeon, died at his home on Wednesday afternoon at 2:45 o'clock. He had been in fading health for a number of years. He was taken sick two weeks ago yesterday and since was confined to his bed. Dr. Grass was 73 years old.
Dr. Grass was born in Denmark, April 28, 1848. It was in Denmark that he married Miss. Carrie Thompson in 1868. The family lived in Denmark until 1888 when in the spring they came to America, landing in New York in April. It was May the same year that the family came to Owatonna to make their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Grass were born seven boys and five girls. Mrs. Grass' death occurred 15 years ago. Dr. Grass was again married.
Dr. Grass is survived by his wife and sons, Jacob, Nels, Christian and Carl, all of Owatonna; James, Blooming Prairie; and John, Box Elder, Mont.; and daughters, Mrs. Anna Pratt, Owatonna; Mrs. Carrie Jenson, Glasgow, Mont.; Mrs. Henry Schroeder, Morrow, Minn.; Mrs. George Schaefer, Minneapolis; and Lillian Grass, Portland, Ore.
The funeral arrangements are awaiting word from his absent sons and daughters.

Funeral services for Dr. James J. Grass, who died Wednesday afternoon, will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home. Rev. A.P. Anderson of Our Saviour's Lutheran church will have charge of the service. Interment will be at Forest Hill cemetery.
Death came to Dr. Grass after he had been confined to his bed the last two weeks. Born in Denmark 73 years ago, he has lived in Owatonna since coming to America 33 years ago. In addition to his second wife he is survived by eleven children, eight living in Minnesota and the others to the west.

A figure long familiar to Owatonna dropped from sight yesterday with the burial of Dr. James J. Grass, veterinary surgeon, at Forest Hill cemetery. Rev. A. P. Andersen conducted the ceremony at the home at Rose and Willow streets.
Dr. Grass, 73 years old last April 28, died Wednesday afternoon after an illness of two weeks. He had been in poor health for two years. Born in Denmark, he married there. He came with his family direct to Owatonna on landing in America 33 years ago. Fifteen years ago his wife died. He married a second time.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sons, Jacob, Nels, Christian and Carl of Owatonna, James of Blooming Prairie, and John of Box Elder, Mont.; and daughters, Mrs. Anna Pratt of Owatonna; Mrs. Carrie Jensen of Glasgow, Mont.; Mrs. Henry Schroeder of Morrow, Minn.; Mrs. George Schaefer of Minneapolis, and Mrs Allen Fiffon of Portland, Ore.

Funeral services for the late James J. Grass, veterinary surgeon, well and most favorably known here thru his long residence in this city, were held at his home on East Rose street Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. A.P. Andersen. Interment was made in the Forest Hill cemetery.
Mr. Grass, whose death resulted from complications due to old age, was 73 years old. He came, with his family to Owatonna in 1888 from his native land, Denmark. Fifteen years ago his first wife died and later he was married again.
The deceased is survived by his wife and eleven children, six sons and five daughters. They are Mrs. Anna Pratt of this city; Mrs. George Schafer of Minneapolis; Mrs. Henry Schroeder of Mora; Mrs. Carrie Jensen of Glasgow, Montana; Mrs. Lillian Sissen of Portland, Oregon; Jacob L. and Carl J. of this city; Nels P. of Havana; Christian J. of Merton; J.D. of Blooming Prairie, John L. of Box Elder, Montana.

The obituary is incorrect with Carrie's maiden name as Thompson, it should be Pedersen. Years after the death of his first wife Carrie Pedersen, Dr. J.J. Grass married Anna Christianson Peterson.
