Marva Jean (Baker) Gibson-McKinney, Marva, affectionately known as "Marva Jean," was born on August 29, 1951 in Gary to the late Howard Douglas and Louise Baker. She attended Freeman Temple Church of God in Christ early in life. She was a dedicated member of Pilgrim M.B. Church and faithfully served for 25 years in the capacities of church clerk, choir member, finance committee member, Male Chorus Booster and broadcast announcer. Places of employment include Equitable Life Insurance Co. for 25 years, Larry Gordon Agency, Majestic Star Casino, IN Workforce Development Services and the office of the Calumet Township Trustee. Marva and Bobby wed on her birthday in 1970; to this union two children, LaToya Denise and Bryann Howard, were born. On November 1, 1997 Marva united in holy matrimony to Judge T. McKinney. This union had the added blessing of expanding the family to include Kevin, Chandra, Jacquita, Eboney, Zsanette, J'Von, and Caira. Marva experienced a sweet, peaceful transition on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Hobart. She was preceded in death by her parents. She will be remembered by her loving husband, Judge McKinney, children, LaToya (Broderick) DuBose and Bryann (JaVeita) Gibson, all of Merrillville; brother, Marvin Baker of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Myles, Morghan, Madison and Samuel all of Merrillville; 5 sisters-in-law and 4 brothers-in-law; godmother and godsister, Cordia and Clarissa Brown, respectively; godson, Damien McGill; dear friends, Linda McGill, LaVerne Pettis, and Robin Ellis and a host of other family and friends. Visitation Wednesday, May 2nd, from 4p-8p (family hours 6p-8p) at Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 W. Ridge Road, in Gary. Homegoing celebration will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Pilgrim M.B. Church, 1301 W. 21st Ave. in Gary at 11:00 am. Committal service will follow homegoing celebration at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
