Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 29, in the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home for John Dee Franklin, who died suddenly of a heart attack at the Rosary Hospital at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 27th. Services were in charge of Rev. Louis Lightfoot with burial in Memorial Gardens. Mr. Franklin, 70 years of age, was a retired carpenter and plumber and lived at 310 Lincoln Ave. He was a veteran of World War I. Born in Taylor County, he was the son of the late Henry and Bettie Oaks Franklin. On December 24, 1917 he was married to Miss Annie Vaughn, who survives him with the following children, Mrs. Reed Willis, Rt. 5; Bobby, Junior, Plez and Paul Franklin, all at home; Ralph and Hollis Franklin, both of Rockville, Maryland and Guy Daniel Franklin, of Charleston, Mass. Besides his wife and children, he is also survived by three brothers, Ben, of Granada, California; George of Shelbyville, Ind., and Goble Franklin, of Monticello, Ind.; eleven grandchildren and one step-great-grandson. Pallbearers were Bobby and Alvia Bell, Garnett Barnes, Henry Dulworth, Sam Graham, and James Grammer.
