Hampton M. Watts was born August 13, 1872 in Smith County, Tennessee, son of John W. Watts and Elizabeth 'Bettie' Young.

Hampton married Grace Ferguson, who was born September 28, 1890 in Chestnut Mound, Tennessee (Smith County), daughter of William Ferguson and Ardelia Tennessee Smith.

The Tennessee State Marriage Records shows that on November 5, 1910 in Smith County, Tennessee, Grace married Hampton M. Watts, who was born August 13, 1872 in Smith County, Tennessee, son of John W. Watts and Elizabeth 'Bettie' Young.

The 1920 Federal Census for Civil District 8, Tennessee (Smith County) shows Hampton M. Watts, a farmer, age 46, born in Tennessee; and his wife, Gracie, age 38, born in Tennessee. Living with them were two children: Bettie A., age 5; and Lewis F., age 0; both born in Tennessee.

Hampton died April 27, 1964 in Chestnut Mound, Tennessee (Smith County) and was buried in there in the Chestnut Mound United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grace died December 9, 1966 in Chestnut Mound, Tennessee and was buried beside her husband.
