Artist. One of Europe's leading modern painters. Born in Romania, the son of a Jewish banker, he set out as a free-lance artist at the age of twenty four. Having studied throughout Europe, he set out on a life of artistic experimentation, exhibiting with the "Secession" as well as the "Zurich Dadists" while continually investigating new styles. Growing German anti-Semitism throughout the 1930s encouraged Segal to participate in exhibitions of Jewish communities and organizations. In 1933, he immigrated to Spain and, soon after, to London. In London, he opened an art school, which his daughter maintained after his death.
