Son of Luther A. Billings and Sarah Ann Janes Billings.
Enlisted in the Civil War as private, Union Army, Company B, Iowa 32nd Infantry, 1 April, 1864. He was transferred to Co. F, 8th Infantry in 1865 and killed 30 Sept. 1865, Tuskegee, Alabama, Interment, same day.
Records state he was 18 when he enlisted and 20 when he died, so he must have lied about his age when he enlisted.
New information received Dec. 2013, from the National Archives, after this memorial was created, indicate that Edward's body was moved from Tuskegee to a cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama before final interment in the Marietta National Cemetery in 1868.
