Ferrel Alvin Massey passed away November 29, 2005, of cancer, at the age of 88, at his home in Orem, Utah

Ferrel was born to George Ova and Elizabeth Maud Orgill Massey on April 10, 1917, in Mountain Dell, Utah, near Vernal. He was the sixth of eleven children. Being born into a farming family, he learned the value of hard work at a young age, a tradition that continued throughout his life. Ferrel graduated from Uintah High School, and then served an L.D.S. mission in the Southern States from 1939-1941.

Following his mission, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for four years with the 116th General Hospital Unit, as an x-ray technician. During World War II he was stationed in England and Germany. While in the service, he enjoyed the opportunity of playing trombone with an Army dance band. While stationed in England he met his wife, Kathleen Margaret Dunn, where they were married on April 2, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 21, 1946. Ferrel graduated from B.Y.U. in 1950, in Business Management. He worked at Geneva Steel for many years as he began his photography career in his home. Ferrel, Margaret and the children worked together in the business.

Ferrel continued actively working in photography until the age of 86. Ferrel has served faithfully in many callings in the L.D.S. Church. He served as an ordinance worker in the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples for over 20 years. He and Margaret also enjoyed serving a mission at the Oakland, California Temple in 1981-82. Ferrel spent several years as a member of the Mendelssohn Chorus. Ferrel always looked forward to family get-togethers, summer barbecues, and the annual Christmas party.

Ferrel is survived by his wife, Margaret, six children and their spouses, Michael (Earlene), Adrian (Valerie), Sherwin (Loretta), Larraine Nelson (Gordon), Lanore Whiting (Larry), Loretta Oborn (William), 31 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren. Two grandchildren preceded him in death. He is also survived by sisters, Golda Carroll, Illela McKinlay, brother, George, Floyd (Geneva) and Valda Massey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeview Stake Center, 400 West 1800 South, Orem. Viewing Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center, Provo and Saturday, at the stake center, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, Provo. Condolences may be sent to www.BergMortuary.com.
