She was first married to Charles Boldt who made a massive fortune in bottle making and his company merged with Corning. He then died suddenly. Hilda returned to Southern California living in Santa Barbara and then building the fabulous Casa Encantada, one of the most sumptuous mansion in Bel Air10644 Bellagio Road, which Conrad Hilton then bought from her for a ridiculously low price. It was known as 'the house with the golden doorknobs.'
