Betty J, the beloved wife of Engineer H B Ailstock, died this morning at four o'clock at her home on Railroad Avenue in Avis, of cancer of the stomach, from which she had suffered a long time, but for the past eight weeks she had been in a serious condition.
Mrs Ailstock was 50 years of age and was born in Lexington, Va, where she lived until she married Mr Ailstock, in 1886. Before marriage she was Miss Betty Smiley.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and had been for a good many years.
Mrs Ailstock leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband, five sons: G B, Montgomery, Harry, Wiley, Ivan and one daughter, Miss Lillian. Also her mother, Mrs J C Smiley of Craigsville, Va; one brother, Montgomery Smiley and two sisters, Mrs E B Garland, of Millboro, Va, and Mrs B H Smiley of Craigsville, Va, besides numerous other relatives and friends.
She was a devoted mother and a good christian woman and will be sadly missed both at home and among her many friends.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, at the First Baptist Church by Sec'y Weeks and Rev G W Richardson of the Methodist church. The burial will follow immediately after at Hill Top cemetery.
