Clara Daniel was adopted at a young age by Joseph Francis and Louisa Elizabeth Vinzant LaPier. The LaPiers were an older childless couple who lived on Wilhite Mountian in the north part of Cullman County, AL.

Joseph Francis LaPier also known as Frank was born in 1835 as a French Canadian and naturalized as a U.S. Citizen in 1843 while residing in Clinton County, NY with his family. Joseph joined the Union Army in 1861 and mustered out in Talladega County, Alabama in 1865. After his divorce from his second wife, Matilda, Joseph moved to Falkville, Morgan County and married Louisa.

Louisa, born in 1844, was born and raised on Wilhite Mountain. Her family were some of the first early settlers of the area. In fact, one could argue that Wilhite Mountian should rightfully be named Vinzant Mountain.

Joseph died in 1916 when Clara was 13 years old. Louisa died in 1918 when Clara was 15 years old.

Records show that Clara Daniel was born to Missouri Daniel in Fulton County, Georgia. Clara was told by her adopted mother and passed this story down to her daughters that Missouri Daniel could not provide the care for her. Therefore, Dr. William Suit found a loving home for Clara. DNA matching confirms that Clara is maternally kin to Ida Catherine Williams Pritchett (sister of Missouri Williams Daniel).

On Oct 26, 1917, Clara Daniel, 14 years old, married George Knighten, 23 years old. The marriage took place at the home of the bride on Wilhite Mountian, Cullman County by Rev John Littleton Knighten.

George and Clara resided on 80 acres on top of Wilhite Mountain, Cullman County and had 6 children. Two children passed away as babies.
