The following information was taken from the bio of his son, Joseph Barnett Galloway, and may contain errors:

James Galloway was a very strong man. Even at the age of 60 years he could in a wrestle throw men of 24 years of age, and at the age of 72 he made a full hand in the harvest field. He was an industrious farmer, and also worked more or less in wood work. He was a soldier in the Black Hawk war, as also were his two elder brothers, William and Samuel. He died Nov. 17, 1872, at the age of 76 years. He leaves one brother, Zorobabel, and many other friends to mourn his loss. He was a public-spirited man, and did much for the improvement of this county.
