POWNAL - Albert H. Blackstone, 73, died at his home Wednesday night after a long illness. He was born in Freeport, a son of Harry and Mary Fortin Blackstone, and atttended Freeport and Pownal schools. For 47 years he operated Blackstone Country Store in Pownal Center. the potbellied stove in the center of the store served as a gathering place for yarn swapping and business ventures. He sold the business in 1971 because of ill health and retired. He was a deputy sheriff for 12 years and had served as a town selectman. He married Christina Bradley of Lubec on June 27, 1931. Mr. Blackstone his survived by his wife of Pownal; a son, Albert Jr. of Pownal; two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Claudia) Neuman of Clare, Mich., and Mrs. Laurence (Alice) Smith of Pownal; five sisters, Nora Fitts of Freeport, Hazel Reynolds of Cumberland, Lucy Prescott of Sarasota, Fla., Mabel Hodsdon of Pownal, and Harriett Bigelow of North Yarmouth; three brother, Fred of Antioch, Calif., Asa of Freeport, and Chester of North Yarmouth; and eight grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jude's Church, Main Street, Freeport. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

BLACKSTONE - In Pownal, December 3, Albert H. Blackstone of Elmwood Rd. Husband of Christina Bradley Blackstone. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Jude's Mission Church, Freeport, Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Pownal. Visiting hours at the Lindquist Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Freeport, Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
