Freeman W. Wincey was born in 1833 in Georgia and married Sarah Smith on 18 Sep 1852 in Terrell County, Georgia.
His residence at his time of enlistment was in Thomas County, Georgia. He enlisted at Bethel Church, in Quitman, Brooks County, Georgia by James M. McDonald for the period of the war. Freeman enlisted 07 September 1861 as a private in Company "C", 61st Georgia Infantry (Wiregrass Rifles, later became 26th Regiment (Lamar's Georgia Infantry). He died of disease 25 November 1861 at Waynesville, Georgia.
H.H. Tooke, attorney at Thomasville, Georgia on 03 October 1862 on behave of Sarah Winsey, the lawful widow of Freeman W. Wincey, filed claims of Deceased Officers and Soldiers from Georgia which were filed for settlement in the Office of the Confederate States Auditor for the War Department.
A Confederate Grave Marker was ordered by Ann I. Keene, and placed in the Confederate Soldiers Cemetery at Waynesville at the Goertner Mumford/Confederate Library on Mineral Springs Road, by the SCV Members. On 06 May 2012 a Confederate Grave Stone Dedication was held by the Brantley County, Georgia Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade #2637.
