W. W. 1 Ralph Satermo was born June 16, 1891 to Peder and (Elisabeth) Satermoe in Climax, MN. He was reared in Climax and Granville, ND. In 1912 he moved to Saskatchewan where he was employed in a hardware store. In 1914 he returned to Climax and in 1916 he came to Van Hook to work in a hardware store. He entered the Army in 1919 and served in France. He was discharged in 1919 and returned to Van Hook.
In 1925, he married Thelma Halvorson who was born January 10, 1904 in Dalton, MN. She was the daughter of Henry and Siri Halvorson who moved to Mountrail County in 1914.
Ralph and Thelma moved to Devils Lake in 1927 but returned the following year and entered into a hardware cooperation known as Traynor Satermo Co. In 1950 he bought out the other stockholders and the store became a family corporation known as Satermo Hardware. In 1953 he moved the store to New Town. Ralph retired in 1963 and his son, Milton, manages the store.
Ralph and Thelma Satermo had five children: Milton, New Town, married Wollschlager; Eunice, Minot, married Vernon Lohse; Dale, Englewood, CO, married Frieda Grade; Dwight, Hesel, ND, married Neva Myers; and Keith, New Town, married Carleen Johnson.
Ralph died March 17, 1973, and Thelma resides in New Town.
