Captain of the Goodyear-Zeppelin airship "Mayflower". On July 12, 1931 the airship broke away from a ground crew during a storm and crashed into power lines at the Kansas City Municipal airport and burned.
The contact with the power lines caused the engines gasoline tanks to ignite. Captain Brannigan was badly burned and died on July 17th from his severe burns. His copilot R H Hobensack was also burned attempting to pull Capt Brannigan from the wreckage. Two other passengers were slightly injured when they lept from the gondola.
