Mollie Sue McGarity Conroy

After an eight-year battle with breast cancer, Mollie Sue McGarity Conroy passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2012 at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was 56 years of age.

Funeral services for Mrs. Conroy are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Cedar Ridge Ward. Burial will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Allen City Cemetery in Allen, Texas under the direction of Hayhurst Funeral Home.

Mollie Sue McGarity Conroy was born July 31, 1955 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Thomas Wayne and Patricia Whitis McGarity.

The former Miss Mollie McGarity was a 1973 graduate of Plano, Texas High School. She received her Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She married Jim Conroy on June 28, 1975 in Plano, Texas. She taught Street Law, a practical law course, for 17 years at South Intermediate High School, where she successfully developed and coached Broken Arrow's first competitive Mock Trial team until she retired in 2008. She was honored as Broken Arrow's 1998 Teacher of the Year, a "Best Teacher of America" in 2000 by Who's Who of America's Teachers and as Oklahoma Junior College Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year in 1990. In 2002, she was also given Broken Arrow Board of Education's Golden Apple Award.

Countless lives have been touched by her passion for guiding and encouraging those around her to reach extraordinary levels in all aspects of their lives. Perhaps her own words upon pondering retirement capture her spirit best:

"Packing the final remnants of my teaching career, I reviewed the poignant scenes that had played out in Room 131 for 17 years. Exactly how and when had these ‘derelicts' (as my mother called them) wormed their way into my heart? After all, in the beginning, I didn't speak their language nor understand their culture."

Her fondest memories were of growing up with a big, happy family in Plano, her loving relationship with her husband Jim and vacations with her family. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Memorials may be made to Broken Arrow Neighbors, 322 W. Broadway, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, 74012.
