John Martin Zimmerman, 91, of RD 2 Everett, died January 18, 1976 in the Memorial Hospital of Bedford County.
Born in Hopewell Township on March 31, 1884, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Bowers) Zimmerman. Sixty-five years ago on December 27, 1910, he married Laura Border who survives along with one son, Bruce H. Zimmerman of RD 2, Everett. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. Three sisters and eight brothers preceded him in death.
Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the Everett Church of the Brethren, and a fifty-year member of the Everett Masonic Fraternity No. 524. He was a graduate of the Millersville Normal School in Lancaster and Franklin and Marshall College with a B. A. degree in 1918. He began teaching in the Broadtop and Hopewell Township Schools in 1902 and was principal in the Everett Area School System from 1918-1925. He then became principal of the Hopewell, New Paris, and Pleasantville Schools between the years 1925-1934. In 1938 he began working for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance as caseworker and later became supervisor, retiring in March of 1970.
Funeral services were held January 20 at the Robert H. Chamberlain Funeral Home in Everett with the Rev. Philip Bradley officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery in Tatesville.
