John Reynolds, born 7 April, 1720, was the 3rd of 6 sons born to Peter and Sarah Greene Reynolds.
He married Sarah, Maiden Name Unknown, about 1746, in North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island.
Births: Reynolds, of John and Sarah:
Phebe, born 2 January, 1747 *
Welthan, born 20 April, 1749. *

Sarah is believed to have died 21 April, 1749, the day after Welthan's birth. *
John remarried in June, 1751, to Anne Utter Greene, widow of Benjamin Greene.
John and Anne were the parents of Anne, born 9 August, 1751; William, born 19 July, 1753; Benjamin 19 April, 1756 and Daniel, born 3 June, 1760.
In the 1774 Colonial Census, John is recorded as "John, son of Peter", and has 3 males above 16, 1 male under 16 and 2 females over 16.
John served as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War, 1st in Major's Regiment, and later in Varnum's Regiment, 3rd May to December, 1776.
In 1777, he is listed on the Military census, North Kingston.
In 1782, he is listed on the Rhode Island Tax list, North Kingston.
The 1790 census lists his household as 1 male over 16, and 2 females, living in North Kingston.
The 1800 census, again lists him living in North Kingston; 1 male over 45 and 2 females over 45.

On 3 November, 1804, the Providence Gazette stated that "Reynolds, John, Esq. aged 84 years, died at North Kingston, on 9 October, 1804".
In his Will, proved 12 November, 1804, John Reynolds, yeoman, Providence Plantation, Washington, Rhode Island, named his son Benjamin executor of his estate, and names daughters Phebe Reynolds; Welthan Kenyon, wife of John Kenyon; Anne Alin (Olin), wife of Giles Alin (Olin); sons William, Benjamin and Daniel.

In December, 1869, the town records of North Kingston, Washington, Rhode Island, suffered a major fire. In 1881, attempts were made to piece together what was left of the records. Some records remained intact, others disappeared. John and Sarah's marriage record disappeared, but the birth records of John's children with 1st wife Sarah, and 2nd wife Anne Utter Greene survived.
John's Will also survived the fire, burnt around the edges, but legible enough to read the main portion, listing the names of his children, his executor, provisions he made for daughter Phebe, who was an invalid.
Nowhere in the remaining records is there anything regarding a Phebe Tillinghast, or her marriage to John Reynolds. If in fact he did marry her, she had died prior to his marriage to Sarah (Unknown maiden name), and the birth of his daughters by wife Sarah...specifically Phebe and Welthan.
