Adored daughter of Tina and Lynn Kuhns, loving sister of Kylie.

Kelsey was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia on September 8, 1998 at the age of 5. She relapsed on May 23, 2003 and received a bone marrow transplant from her sister Kylie. Sadly Kelsey passed away from t-cell complications on November 1, 2005.

Kelsey was described as a bubbly, bright and determined child who enjoyed dance, soccer and basketball. Her personality and her smile were contagious; she could just light up a room.

She grabbed people's attention when she was going through her illness because she had this way with people. Kelsey always really concentrated on people getting along, trying to do good things and getting together. When Kelsey was little, her favorite activities were sand art, painting pumpkins and trying to win a gold fish.

Kelsey was passionate about ballet, tap and jazz. She attended Mifflinburg Area Middle School and the Enterline's Dance Studio in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania

Kelsey's sister Kylie has established a nonprofit organization Kelsey's dream in honor of Kelsey.

On what would have been Kelsey's 13th birthday; Tina, Kylie and Kelsey's friends from her school organized a Kelsey Kuhns Memorial Day and raised money to build a playground at the new Mifflinburg Intermediate School. The playground was completed in 2007.


MIFFLINBURG — Kelsey Lynn Kuhns, 12, of 936 Brouse Road, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. She fought a battle with cancer since she was 4 years old. SShe was born Oct. 8, 1993, in Lewisburg, a daughter of H. Lynn and Tina S. Knause Kuhns.

Kelsey was a sixth-grade pupil at the Mifflinburg Area Middle School, where she was on the distinguished honor roll and was student of the month. She played on the field hockey, softball, soccer and basketball teams. Kelsey was also the treasurer of the school's Leo Club and was active in the middle school chorus, Girl Scouts, tap and jazz dancing and ballet. She performed with the Williamsport Civic Ballet in "The Nutcracker" for two years.

She had a love for animals and the outdoors. Kelsey loved spending time with her family at their cabin every weekend, and traveling on hunting trips with her dad, where she bagged a buck in North Carolina last November. She treasured cooking, baking and working on crafts with her grandma, Darla. Kelsey had a great artistic talent and creativity. She won several poster, bookmark and calendar contests with her art work. When she was 3 years old, Kelsey won the title of Little Miss Hawaiian Tropic in a state competition. Kelsey had many other hobbies, including reading, roller blading, ice fishing and riding snowmobiles and four-wheelers.

She touched so many people's lives with her compassionate care, love and bravery, Kelsey and sister, Kylie, shared a special relationship and had many fun times together, Kylie was also Kelsey's brave bone marrow donor.Kesley filled her mom and dad's world with so many special memories and always found a way to make her days fun and positive.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her sister, Kylie L. Kuhns; maternal grandparents, Darla Knause and Bob Nipple of Mifflinburg and Donald and Diane Knause of St. Petersburg, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Harry and Faye Kuhns of Winfield; her great-grandparents, Leroy and Avis Keister of Kreamer and Bertha Knause of New Berlin; aunts and uncles, Mike and Amie Miller and Shawn and Heidi Kuhns, all of Mifflinburg; and special friends, Donnie Weider and Charlotte Bickel. She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Ray Knause.

Visitors are welcome from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home by Pastor Wayne Muthler.

Burial will be in New Berlin Cemetery.

Kelsey's wish was to have donations made to her sister, Kylie, in lieu of flowers. Those wishing to donate to this fund may make checks payable to Kylie Kuhns and submit to the Mifflinburg Bank & Trust Co., P.O. Box 186, Mifflinburg.
