Clemson - Graveside services for Dr. Edward Lowry Shuler, 84, of 150 Downs Blvd., formerly of Westminster, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 1999 in Heritage Memorial Gardens, Hwy. 11, Westminster with the Revs. Stan Patterson and Earl Gunsallus officiating. The family will receive friends 5-7 tonight at Sandifer Funeral Home, which is in charge. Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church Development Fund, P.O. Box 42, Salem, SC 29676. Dr. Shuler died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at the Clemson Downs Retirement Center. Born September 27, 1914 in Orangeburg County, he was a son of the late Nolan P. and Mary Lowry Shuler. He was a retired general practitioner and surgeon in Westminster for 34 years. He was a graduate of Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina and a retired honorary staff member of Oconee Memorial Hospital, where he also served as former chief of staff. He was a member of the South Carolina Medical Association, a former trustee for the Oconee County School Systems, past president of the Westminster Rotary Club, recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award, former director of the Bank of Westminster and member of Salem United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Patricia "Patsy" Prince Shuler; sons, Ned Shuler of Beech Island, Al Shuler of St. George, Va.; daughter, Rhett Barker of Columbia; sister, Joyce Pattishall of Hershey, Pa.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
