CHESTER, MONTANA - Glen Clarence Peterson, 77, of Chester, who served in the US Army from 1955-61, he transferred to the Army reserves in 1958 following a military accident. Reportedly, he was pinned under a cannon that was being moved and he suffered a fractured jaw and subsequent surgeries. He was honorably discharged from the Reserve Corps in 1961 with the rank of Specialist-4. He moved to Chester, Montana in 1959 where he initially worked for Marias Equipment Co. as a truck driver and mechanic, and later retired from the Liberty County Road Department, died of complications from lung cancer Thursday at Liberty Medical Center in Chester.
He adopted Betty's 4 children, Linda, Mike, Bruce and Jeff. The Peterson's marriage eventually ended in divorce.
Before his retirement in the early 1990's Glen worked 20+ years for the Liberty County Road Department. After he retired, he enjoyed gardening and canning his produce, and always had plenty to share with family ad friends. He also enjoyed planting fruit trees in his backyard and was proud of the fruit harvested each year.
In his quiet time at home Glen loved watching old westerns", sitcoms, documentaries, and the "news" on TV. He had 2 TV's set up in his living room so he could watch many of his shows at the same time.
Glenn enjoyed having coffee and eating at Spuds Cafe, where he would spend time visiting with the many "regulars" who became his friends. Another favorite pastime was his love of garage sales.
Glen's roots were in Minnesota so he traveled there to see family and old friends. He was very independent and many of these trips were "spur of the moment", so it was always a surprise to his family when he arrived. He last visited McIntosh, MN Thanksgiving 2008.
Glen's health began to fail and he was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2009. He felt fortunate to continue to live at home during his treatments. He recently admitted to the Liberty Medical Center in Chester, Montana where he died in the early morning of Thursday - 26 February 2009 at the age of 77 years.

Visitation begins Tuesday at Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester. Cremation will follow. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the family plot at McIntosh, Minn., later this spring. No formal services are planned.
Survivors include his children, Susan Peterson of Kalispell, Catherine Peterson, address unknown, Linda Erickson of Chester, Mike Norlander of Nevada, Bruce Norlander of Kalispell and Gordon Peterson of Columbia Falls; brothers Roger Peterson of Milwaukee, John Peterson of McIntosh, Minn., and Donald Peterson of Wolf Point; sisters Phyllis Kiecker of Fosston, Minn., Ruby Ellen Peterson of Minneapolis and Judy Nephew of Fertile, Minn.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Glen attended the Lindsay Country School and graduated from the 8th grade 2 July 1945. Glen worked hard on the farm to help provide for the family's livelihood.
