William H. Armor was born at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania on the August 18, 1844. The family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, when he was ten years of age where they lived until 1861. When the call came for volunteers in the Civil War, William responded, and enlisted in the First Missouri Infantry. He was promoted to lieutenant, and did staff duty during the remainder of the war.

From 1865 to 1868, he was in Pennsylvania, dealing in oil, and early in the spring of the latter year came by steamer to Montana. For two years, he was the secretary of a ditching establishment at Helena until 1879, when he received the appointment of deputy United States internal revenue collector.

On June 19, 1884, he died from inflammation of the bowels at the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. John Stedman; he was 39 years old. An aged father and mother and devoted sister, Mrs. Alice Stedman, ministered to him constantly during his short illness.

The deceased was Captain General of Helena Commandery No. 2, Knights Templar, High Priest of Helena Royal Arch Chapter No. 2, A.F.&A.M., and Adjutant of Wadsworth Post No. 8, G.A.R. (Helena Independent, 6/20/1884)

A rosewood casket and rough box, with engraved nameplate was purchased from Herrmann & Co. for $70.00. He is buried in the Masonic Section, Row 11.
