Memorial services for Evelyn Janette Bailes will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Clear Lake United Methodist Church in Houston, TX, and on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, TX. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Masonic Cemetery in Seymour, TX.
Mrs. Bailes passed away Friday, September 1 at UTMB Galveston after an extended illness. Mrs. Bailes was born December 27, 1934 in Goree, TX. She graduated from Seymour High School in 1952 and later moved to Jacksonville, TX in support of her husbands career.
Mrs. Bailes was a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, TX, a member of the Wesley Sunday School class, United Methodist Women and the United Methodist HAPY Girls group. She was a pre-school teacher for the Methodist Readiness School and a Sunday school teacher. She volunteered regularly with the Jacksonville Public Library and the Society of St. Stephens outreach ministry. Mrs. Bailes also enjoyed her interactions with countless students while working at the Lon Morris College bookstore.
Mrs. Bailes life was dedicated to serving others and her church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and proud grandmother. Mrs. Bailes had a great appreciation for big band and jazz music. She spent many years enjoying the performances of her husband with the Tyler Big Band. She also enjoyed watching professional golf and tennis as often as possible.
Mrs. Bailes was preceded in death by her husband, Dutton J. Bailes, Jr.; brother, Robert Brown; parents, Raymond and Myrtle Brown; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dutton and Rosalynn Bailes. She is survived by her son, Dutton J. Bailes, III (Jay) of Jacksonville, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Deana Jan Bailes-Del Toro and Mark Luman Del Toro, grandchildren, Evynne Hope Del Toro and Luke Dutton Del Toro of Seabrook, TX; sister, Raydean Damon of Crawford, TX; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Larry Shook of Arlington, TX; and in-laws, Bill and Betsy Bailes of Adkins, TX and Nixie Kiker of Lewisville, TX. She also embraced and loved her many extended family members.
Honorary pallbearers will be the former Jacksonville HAPY Girls members: Mary Arnett, Elizabeth Pearsall-Lippincott, Nell Young, Clause Haynes, Erma Carpenter, Margaret Hightower, Carol Harris, Mary Reynolds, Eve Stanfill, Dale McCorkle, Linda Phillips, Lois Davis, Inez Dykes, Florence Fenner, the late Eugenia Wharton, and the late Charlene Shattuck.
Services in Houston, TX will be under the direction of Reverend Preston Morgan. Services in Jacksonville, TX will be under the direction of Reverend Barbara Hugghins, and services in Seymour, TX will be under the direction of Reverend Ryan Ford.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Baywind Village in League City, TX for their tireless care and love for Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her honor to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Funds at either Clear Lake United Methodist Church of Houston, TX or the First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, TX.
