Merle V. Alderfer, March 6, 1928 - April 25, 2012, Merle V. Alderfer, 84, Laketon, passed away at 8:38 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at his residence. Born March 6, 1928, in Richland Center, he was the son of Carl M. Alderfer and Ruth J. (Ault), who both preceded him in death. He was a retired asphalt road construction worker, retiring from Rieth-Riley Asphalt, Fort Wayne. On Oct. 18, 1950, he married Julia M. Coleman, and she survives. He was a member of Operator Engineer Union No. 103, Fort Wayne, a life-member and past governor of Moose Lodge No. 1518 in North Manchester, and a life-member of Tippecanoe Fellowship No. 96. Survivors include son, Jack L. Alderfer, of Servia; daughters, Pamela Bowman, of North Manchester, Brenda (Larry) Weaver, of Goshen, Tammie (Robert) Funk, of Akron, and Susie Elliott, of Syracuse; brothers, Howard Alderfer, of Warsaw, and Wayne Alderfer, of Cromwell; sisters, Mary Bruce, of Mentone, Mrs. Bill (Ruby) Thompson, of Mentone, and Mrs. Don (Phyllis) Shuster, of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers; one sister; and one great-grandchild. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Indiana 114 West, North Manchester, with visitation from 4-8 p.m. Friday at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon. Memorial contributions can be made to the family through McKee Mortuary.
