Obituary of Ed Schmidt

Ed Schmidt, who had been in ill health for several months, passed away at the home of his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John Krug, in West Bend at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon and were very largely attended. Rev. G. R. McDowell had charge of the services. The pall bearers were E. Bleuer, Lee Morey, F. E. Hoffert, R. G. Wilson, Wm. J. Johnson and O. H. Maberry. Interment was in the West Bend cemetery. The Schutter Funeral Home had charge of the funeral.

Edward D. Schmidt was born in Dysart, Iowa, July 10 1890, and was thus 52 years, 5 mos. and 5 days old at the time of his death. He came to West Bend when he was three years old and resided with his parents near here until five years ago when he moved to a farm northwest of Hobart. He lived here until Dec. 12 1942, when he sold his farm equipment on account of his health. He then returned to West Bend and made his home with his sister, Mrs. John Krug.

He leaves to mourn his death his mother, four brothers and two sisters--Will Schmidt of Mallard, Mike and Henry of Rolfe, and Mrs. Schafer, Chas. Schmidt and Mrs. John Krug all of West Bend. His father passed away ten years ago. He also leaves to mourn his passing thirty-four nieces & nephews. Six nephews are in the armed forces.

Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mike Lindeman, Mr. and Mrs. H. Verbrugge, Carl Lindeman and Marie Lindeman all of Humboldt; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lindeman, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Elmore and family, Harry Broadwell, and Walker Bros., all of Algona; Charley Heckroth of Dysart.
