John (Johann) Endris was born in Alsace-Lorraine in c. 1786. The passenger manifest of the ship Mayflower lists his occupation as farmer. He and his family, except for oldest son John Adam Endris (who was already in the USA), arrived from Nassau, Prussia (Germany) in 1848. Their home in Nassau was about 25 miles NW of Wiesbaden. They embarked from Le Havre, France and disembarked at the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana. Each person had one "parcel" with him/her. It appears that John had come ahead to "scout out" the new land and help his parents and siblings find a home here. Johann's birthplace of Alsace-Lorraine, now part of France, was in western Prussia. Germany did not become a country until about 1870. Johann married Elizabeth Ferich who was born c.1795 in Nassau, Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany before 1815.
