Ferdinand Goering
Ferdinand Goering was born near Dallas, Iowa, April 12, 1851, and departed this life Jan. 8, 1940, age 88 years, 8 months and 27 days. He has been a life-long member of this vicinity.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Wanker, February 10, 1875. To this union nine children were born. Charles, the oldest, preceded his father in death.
Mr. Goering passed away just nineteen days after his wife's death. He had been a life-long resident of Marion county, and had seen it grow from a barren prairie to the fine county it is today. Upon his retirement from the farm he moved to Melcher where he resided until he passed away.
Those left to mourn their loss are: Two daughters, Rosa C., of Iowa City, and Augusta Brown, of Chariton; six sons--John, of Minnesota; Ben and James H., of Jackson, Minnesota; Herman M., of Holton, Kansas; George F., of Lacona; and Walter, of Dallas, Iowa.
Beside those there are 35 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, neighbors and friends. ---- Melcher Union.
