Mrs. Joseph A. Flowers of Waterloo has received the sad news of the death of her brother, Oscar H. Quinn at Philadelphia, last Sunday. Hundreds will remember "Heck Quinn" and be shocked to learn of his death.
For seventeen years he has followed his profession as broncho rider and manager of Wild West shows - first with "Buffalo Bill" and later with "Pawnee Bill." No horse has ever been too wild for "Heck" to ride. He has traveled all over the world, and has tokens by the score presented to him by royalty. Among his many souvenirs are a diamond pin given to him by the late Queen Victoria and some beads which were blessed and presented to him by the late Pope Leo XIII. Mr. Quinn has given private performances before Queen Victoria, King Edward (then Prince of Wales), Queen Wilhelmina, King Alphonse of Spain, the President of the French republic and others and had letters of commendation from Col. Cody ("Buffalo Bill"), G. W. Lille ("Pawnee Bill") and the German government.
Mr. Quinn was born in Salt Lake City forty years ago, and was the son of the late George W. Quinn, one of the early settlers, and obtained his schooling at the old Eighth ward school and later at St. Mark's.
His was a loving, cheerful nature, he knew not what fear was, and his greatest joy was making others happy. His friends were limited only by the number of his acquaintances.
The body will arrive in the city Friday morning. The funeral notice will be given later. The services will be held at the home of his sister, Mrs. Joseph A. Flowers, 1384 South Third East street. Mrs. Walter Brown of Benicia, Cal., who is also a sister of Mr. Quinn, has telegraphed her sister she will be here for the funeral. Mrs. Quinn is bringing the body here herself.
