If the world had known what was coming on February 25th, 1932 it would have stopped and taken a deep breath as it prepared for the wild ride that was Marie Rich. With fiery red hair and hazel eyes that sparkled when she laughed (which was loud and often) she took on the world with tenacity and passion.

In childhood she held her own against five brothers, playing the role of both sister and mother; while somehow managing to maintain the grace and dignity of a southern belle as she learned whiskey songs and sailor swears.

By 17 this spitfire found and married the first love of her life, A. Jack Rich. Without pause she began her own family with the births of her sons, Rory and Jack. She fought the world, and sometimes her sons, to raise them into the men she knew they could be, and smiled in pride as they brought her a brood of her favorite thing, babies!

When the world took her first love, she refused to be stopped by grief and became the matriarch of her family on her own. And, when she was ready, she found a second love, Richard Earl, to share her journey with. Marie was the penultimate grandmother, so much so that later in life more people knew her as Granny than her given name. And though she believed blood was thicker than water, she taught her family that blood is in more than biology and her "family" grew with each person she met.

Marie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister, and companion– but she was more than those roles that identified her! She was a woman whose quick mind and quicker tongue spread love in one moment, and dealt out deserved lashes the next. She would lay down her life for those she loved, and fight tooth and nail for anyone on that list. She pushed the people around her to be all she saw them to be – but still offered them a lap to cuddle on when the world knocked them around. She lived as she loved, fully, passionately, and without reserve. Marie was a woman, and a force, that will be incredibly missed.

She is survived by her partner, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and a large network of friends.

Special thanks to Everyday Angels and Harrison Hospice for their time and service in the final days of Marie's life. We were blessed to have you at this time.
