His family will greatly miss his strength and humor. His solid testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was always foremost in his heart and was shared and exem-plified daily to those whom he loved. His zest for learning and knowledge of everything on this earth carried him through this life.
He was born June 30, 1918 in Redmond, Utah, the 9th child of Robert Henry and Elizabeth Guy Lawrence. He married Helen Heath May 13, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple; she preceded him in death. Married Charlene Francis August 6, 1982 in the Ogden Temple. He graduated from South High School and attended LDS Business College. Served as a missionary, bishop, member of the Stake High Council, and numerous other positions of service. Missions: California; Louisiana, Baton Rouge; West Jordan Temple; and New Jersey, Morristown. He was self-employed most of his adult life in newspaper advertising. He was extremely passionate about genealogy, making several trips to Australia, his ancestral home, to meet his extended family and work on his genealogy. He loved to play baseball and was instrumental in starting the youth baseball program in Grantsville. He was an avid BYU sports fan.
Survived by his wife, Charlene; Evelyne England (raised with his family); six sons and two daughters, Don R. (Barbara), Mesquite; D. Paul (Susanne), Alpine; Stephen (Geraldine), Tooele; Joe (Jodie), New Jersey; G. Kelly (Rita), Taylorsville; G. Scott (Jana) Layton; H. Janette (Craig) Jensen, West Jordan; H. Diane Lawrence, Salt Lake City; 40 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, Harry, Victor, Gladys, Sidney, Forrest, Melbourne, May Adelaide and Harold; granddaughter, Amy Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2001, 11:30 a.m. at the Valley Park 2nd Ward Chapel, 5233 South 3200 West. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Thursday at the church, 9:45-11:10 a.m. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery
