Bertha Griffitts died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Douglas Care Center.

Bert was born May 22, 1921, at Uva to Luther Calvin Mills and Louie Levina (Sharp) Mills.

On Aug. 2, 1936, she married Paul Wehn Griffitts in Wheatland. Together they raised five children, Dan of Artesia, N.M., Clara Tomasek of Northglenn, Colo., Doris Brown and Lavina Jackson of Casper and Calvin of Minatare, Neb.

Bert's talents were many, including seamstress, professional hand knitting, upholstery, rock cutting, jewelry making, silver smithing, hand quilting, hand rug weaving and much more.

In earlier years, she worked as a waitress and cook. When she tired of that, she started driving school bus for the Converse County School District #1, driving kids on the Irvine route for more than 20 years.

After she and Paul retired, they did extensive traveling, making an RV their home away from home. Many of these trips were made with her brother Bill and his wife. After Paul passed on, Bert got involved in the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, working as a volunteer. She worked mainly in the dining room helping set up meals, but also participated in all the fund raisers, including bake sales and craft fairs.
Bert is survived by her five children, 21 grandchildren, more than 30 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and three nieces and their families.

She was in preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Paul, on Sept. 3, 1992; father Luther on April 18, 1963; mother Louie on Feb. 4, 1977; siblings Bill, Martha, Olga and Margaret; a grandchild; and a couple of great-grandchildren.
