Remembering Our Fallen Hero's
Police Officer Halladay B. Pratt, Otoe County Nebraska
Nebraska City Police Officer Halladay B. Pratt died on February 10, 1902, from injuries suffered while attempting to disburse a group of males that had gathered and were destroying some property. While ordering the "mob" to leave, Officer Pratt was struck in the head with a brick thrown by a young male in the group. Pratt was knocked unconscious and carried from the scene by a group of bystanders. He was later taken to his home located near Seventh Street and Fourth Avenue where his condition deteriorated. It was believed that he had suffered a brain hemorrhage due to the blow that ultimately resulted in his death. Officer Pratt was 52 years old and was survived by his wife, Lydie, three sons and two daughters.
Anyone knowing of the existence of a picture of this fallen hero is asked to contact Seward County Sheriff Joe Yocum.
Heroes remembered are never forgotten.
