Donald S. Schmidt, 61, Emmetsburg, died Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was working as custodian. Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg. Burial was in West Bend Cemetery, West Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; sons and daughter, Steve Schmidt, Elbow Lake, Minn., Keith Schmidt, Normal, Ill., Kevin Schmidt, Lino Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Randy (Renee) Schoon, Rochester, Minn.; three grandchildren; and brother, Gilbert Schmidt, Mallard.

Donald was born at West Bend. He graduated from Mallard High School and attended Estherville Junior College. He married Marjorie Jergens in 1949 at Mallard. He farmed in the Mallard area. For the past five years, he was Emmetsburg Park Superintendent. He was also the grounds superintendent at the Emmetsburg Country Club for eight years, a school bus driver for 11 years and worked as custodian at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg.
