Services for Roland "Dick" Schmidt of Mallard, were held Monday, August 5, 1985, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, with Rev. James Wolfram officiating. Burial was in the West Bend Cemetery in West Bend, the Schellhammer Funeral Home of Mallard was in charge of the arrangements.
Casket bearers were: Steve Schmidt, Roger Schmidt, Keith Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, Kent Schmidt, Randy Schoon.
Roland Schmidt was born July 4, 1921 at West Bend, the son of William and Anna (Niewoehner) Schmidt. He was raised and educated in West Bend. In 1935, Roland moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Mallard. Roland and his brother Gilbert farmed with their parents and have continued to farm until the present time. Roland raised purebred duroc pigs from 1943-1981.
Roland Schmidt passed away Friday, August 2, 1985 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, reaching the age of 64 years.
Surviving are: 2 brothers, Gilbert Schmidt of Mallard and Donald Schmidt of Emmetsburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Robert and William.
Roland was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.
