Funeral services for Gilbert G. Schmidt, Mallard, were held Saturday, June 10, 1989 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Malard, with the Rev. Jerry Conley officiating. Burial was at the West Bend Cemetery, West Bend. Schellhammer-Harris Funeral Home, Mallard was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Roger Schmidt, David Schmidt, Steve Schmidt, Keith Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt and Randy Schoon.

Gilbert G. Schmidt, son of William C. and Anna H. Niewoehner Schmidt was born August 7, 1919 in West Bend, Iowa. He attended school in West Bend at an early age before moving to Mallard and graduated from the Mallard High School in 1937. He lived and farmed in Mallard his entire life. Mr. Schmidt died Thursday, June 8, 1989 on arrival at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, having reached 69 years of age.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, and was preceded in death by his four brothers and his parents.
