The death of George Herman, mentioned
in last week's paper, occurred
at his home in this city on Thursday
morning at. 9:30, December 22. 1921
following a long illness, death being
due to hypostatic pneumonia. In 1917
he suffered a stroke of paralysis, due
to a fall. He rallied from this and
was able to be about from time to
time until about a year ago, since which
time he has been confined to his bed
His recent illness was of short duration,
but his advanced years proved
too great a handicap in preventing the
inevitable.
In the death of Mr. Herman the com
munity loses another of those highly
respected and venerable citizens num
bered among the early day residents
whoso years of toil, aided in paving
the way for the present generation
To such hardy settlers we owe a debt
of gratitude and it is but meet that
we pause in our every day activities
to pay our respects to the memory of
one who has gone to join that "endless
caravan. George Adam Herman was born in
""Steinberg, Germany, March 16, 1841
Je left Germany in 1866 and sailed for
he United States, first locating in the
state of Michigan, where he spent the
first five years in this country. On
January 9, 1871 he was married to
Caroline Ebner at Niles, Mich.,
Immediately after their marriage they
moved to Minnesota, where they re
remained until 1881. when they moved
to Texas. Not, liking, that country
they remained there but one year, re
turning to Minnesota and taking up
their home on a farm on Fisher Hill
where they continued to reside until
1911, when they purchased a home and
moved to this city.
Deceased leaves to mourn his demise
his aged wife and four children, a:

Steffen, Elba C. E. Herman, Werner
N. D., One daughter, Mrs. Emma Melvin,
preceded him in death October
25. 1918.
Dining his declining years his wife
has been Iris constant attendant, administering
to every want with the
tenderest affection.
This county had been his home for
many years, and he was personally
known by a large majority of the people.
He was an industrious and highly
respected citizen, a kindly and mild mannered
man, an excellent neighbor
and a true friend. The sympathetic
heart goes out to the sorrowing ones
in their hour of grief.
Funeral services were conducted
from the Woodland school house on
Saturday afternoon, Dec. 24, the services
being conducted by Rev. Wm.
Wooley of the Methodist church, and
interment was made in the Woodland
cemetery. Many of the old neighbors
and friends were present to pay
tribute to his worth.
