Oliver is the son of David Walsh(1853-1884) & Jemina Edith McMullen. He arrived in the USA about 1890 at the age of 11. Eventually he found his way to the St. Paul, Minnesota area where he lived for many years.

He married Elizabeth Mary Engleman, daughter of John Nicholas Engleman & Ursula Kathryn Myers. They had five children, Edward John Walsh(1900-1961), Aldine Marie Walsh(1902-1986), George Oliver Walsh(1904-1965), Harold John Walsh(1906-1984) & William Paul Walsh(1908-1939).

Some time between 1900 & 1905, Oliver moved his residence to Cedar Falls, Iowa before his death in St. Paul, Minnesota.
