William was the son of William Henry and Susan Ann Martin Poor. He married Ada Mae Oyler. They were the parents of nine children, Floy Merle Wood, Marie Pearl Pearson, Wreatha Violet Natterman, Glenn G. Poor Sr., Gordon Kelsey Poor, Paul Eldon Poor Sr., Mary Elizabeth Jones, Dorothy Mae Achenbach, and William Levoy Poor.
