Percy grew up in the Big Bend area of Scrubgrass Twp. Venango County, PA. Percy married Frances A. Glenn of Manorville, Armstrong County on 5 Jul 1916 at Meadville, Crawford County, PA. Frances died 8 Sep 1944. Percy married Olive Fry of Armstrong County in 1947.

At the age of 15 he went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a messenger, carrying the messages to people that came over the teletype wires at the station. He worked himself up to Fireman/Engineer on the railroad. The railroad people went on strike in the 20's and he went out to work in Ohio, Michigan, and Montana with his brothers who were Oil Well Producers/Drillers. He helped bring in many wells during this time. His love was the railroad and he returned to the Pennsylvania Railroad and remained there until his death at the age of 69. Percy was an avid outdoorsman and we learned to prepare turkeys, rabbit, deer as he brought them home from his hunt. We also had to learn to eat fish and frog legs that he would catch. Percy always had a magnificant garden, which as kid we learn to help plant and take care of. We grew up eating very healthy and never realized it. You lived off the land then. My father while out west learned how to make Indian medicine, mostly cough syrup from the Indians which I believe was 90% alcohol. I used to help him make all different concoctions from berries and roots. I would help find in the woods. Percy also tinkered on cars as a mechanic part time in later years. He was the only one I knew that could take a car apart and put it back together and parts would still remain on the ground, but the car ran great.
